Freddy and Alex first met when they were twelve years old in Christmas Cove, Maine, where Alex's family had summered for four generations, and where Freddy lived year round.​

Twelve years later, they met again in South Bristol, and this time it stuck. They got married in 2005 in the meadow at Alex's family's place, and because the cottage was so packed with family and guests, Alex and Freddy went to stay at the Unique Yankee across the Cove.

Then, in 2024, after twenty years of teaching in Massachusetts, Alex and Freddy decided to leave their jobs and their state with their two sons, Claus and Kellen, in order to return full time to their other home in South Bristol. They bought a BnB (the same one that they stayed in back in 2005!), which they called the Christmas Cove Inn.
